Glossary
What the words in Dansly mean, from absence to weekly maximum.
For owners, managers and teachers
Absence. A course dancer telling you, before the class starts, that they'll miss a week. It frees their place for a fill-in, and it's what earns them a catch-up. Not the same as cancelling.
Any level. A course or open class that isn't tied to a step on your level list. A course set to it shows "No experience needed"; an open class shows no level.
Block. The weeks of a course, paid once: "a ten-week block".
Booking. A place in one lesson of an open class.
Building. An address where you teach, with its own rooms, directions and opening hours. See Buildings and rooms.
Cancel. A dancer undoing a booking or an enrolment, or your school calling off a lesson. What comes back depends on which, and when; see Cancellations.
Catch-up. A course dancer making up a missed week in another group or an open class, free. See Catch-ups.
Course. A block of weekly lessons with the same group, paid once at enrolment. See Course editor.
Credit plan. A month of credits a dancer buys once, to spend on open classes priced in credits. It doesn't renew by itself. See Credit plans.
Credits. What a credit plan gives. Each open class priced in credits says how many it takes.
Discount code. A code a dancer enters at checkout to take money off. One per purchase. See Discount codes.
Door. The screen for scanning tickets as people arrive at an event. See Let people in at the door.
Draft. Not public yet. A draft class is only on your team's screens. A draft school is invisible to dancers, even when its classes are published.
Enrolment. A dancer's seat in a course.
Event. A party, practica or social: no leads and follows, no teacher, sold per ticket or free, and open to people who don't dance with you if you choose. See Event editor.
Fill-in. A dancer who helps out, free, in a class that's short on leads or follows. See Fill-in rules.
Fill-in request. Dansly asking eligible dancers to fill a gap. It goes to everyone who fits at once, and only once.
Go live. Publishing your school, so dancers can find you and your join code works. See Go live and payouts.
Guest. Someone who bought a ticket to an event without joining your school. They're on that evening's register and nowhere else.
Group. A named part of a level list, like "Beginners" or "Intermediate", with one or more steps.
Held place. A seat kept for somebody for a limited time: while they pay at checkout, while they decide after a try-out, or while a place your team offered them waits for payment.
Join code. Six letters or numbers dancers type once to join your school.
Lesson. One dated class: Tuesday 14 January's Salsa Beginners 2.
Level list. A style's steps at your school, lowest first. See Styles and levels.
Main building. The building your public page leads with, and the one new classes start in.
Manager. Staff who run the school day to day: classes, members, payments and settings.
Member. Someone who joined your school.
Newcomer. Somebody with no booking and no course seat at your school. Only newcomers can take a try-out.
No experience needed. The badge on classes at the bottom of your level list (up to the step you choose), and on courses set to Any level.
No-show. Booked, didn't come, didn't cancel.
Open class. Something dancers book one date at a time: a weekly class or a one-off workshop. Parties and practicas are events, made in the same editor. See Open-class editor.
Owner. The person who created the school. Only the owner publishes it, connects payouts and handles billing.
Payouts. Your school's own Stripe account, where dancers' money lands.
Price step. One of the prices of an event whose price changes: "Early bird €15, then Door €20". See Event editor.
Publish. Put a course or open class on your schedule. Separate from going live.
Room. A space in a building. Every class needs one.
Seat. A place in a course.
Single visit. An open class paid for per class, with money.
Solo. A course without leads and follows, with one total capacity.
Step. One rung of a level list: "Beginners 2".
Style. A dance style you teach, each with its own level list.
Teacher. Staff who see the classes assigned to them, take attendance and follow fill-ins.
Ticket. A place at an event, with its own code to scan at the door. One buyer can have up to ten.
Try-out. One class for a newcomer, free or cheap, meant to lead to an enrolment. See Try-out classes.
Weekly maximum. How many credit-priced classes a dancer on a plan can book per week, Monday to Sunday. Shown as Max a week.
