Why wasn't this dancer asked?

A class was short and a particular dancer wasn't asked to fill in, or wasn't told. Read the reach breakdown and find the reason.

For owners, managers and teachers

First: was anyone asked?#

Open the class. The Fill-in request card says:

  • "Balanced. A request opens on its own if the gap grows." Nobody is needed. Fill-ins fix an imbalance between leads and follows, not empty places.
  • "Nothing sent yet": the check hasn't reached its time (your Check the balance setting). A gap smaller than Ask when the gap is shows as Balanced instead.
  • "Automatic requests are off for this school." Turn them on under Fill-in rules.
  • Stopped by hand: a manager chose Stop asking. The check leaves this class alone until someone chooses Start asking again.
  • "No roles in this class, so no requests." Events and solo courses never ask.

Also check that the course or open class hasn't opted out of fill-ins on its own editor, and that your school is live.

Then: why not this person?#

Open the reach breakdown from the class. Every member is listed with the first reason that kept them out. The reasons, in the order Dansly applies them:

ReasonWhat it meansWhose to change
Not eligibleDoesn't meet Who can fill in, for example no plan this month and no course seat.Yours: Fill-in rules
Level outside the ruleTheir level doesn't fit Who gets asked for this class's level.Yours: Fill-in rules or levels
In another class thenBooked into something at the same time.Nobody's
Already on this classThey're already in it.Nobody's
Turned fill-in messages offThey can still see and claim the spot, but aren't told.Theirs
Covers the other roleThey dance the other role, and haven't said they'd cover this one.Theirs
Not free that dayTheir availability says they're usually busy that day.Theirs
Muted this schoolThey've silenced your school's messages.Theirs

The first four reasons mean they couldn't take the spot at all. The last four mean they could see and claim it on their Fill-ins tab, but weren't sent a message.

"Told" isn't the same as "buzzed"#

Someone who was told gets a notice in the app. A phone push also needs notifications allowed for Dansly on their phone. The breakdown shows who was told, and who was also pushed.

You can't change a dancer's own preferences. If a regular keeps missing out, ask them to check their fill-in settings in their profile.
