The same course on two evenings

Run two groups of the same level, such as Beginners 2 on Tuesday and Thursday, so dancers can swap a missed week between them.

For owners and managers

Outcome: two courses at the same level on different evenings. Each has its own group, and a dancer who misses a week in one can make it up in the other.

Who can do this: owners and managers, on the web.

Before you start: the style needs a level list (see G01), and you need a room for each evening.

Studio Voorbeeld runs Salsa · Beginners 2 on Tuesdays at De Loods and on Thursdays at Zaal Noord.

What makes two courses "the same"#

Only their style and Level. Dansly doesn't compare names, weekdays or teachers. Two courses both set to Salsa · Beginners 2 match for catch-ups, whatever you call them.

Dansly also doesn't know what either group taught this week. If Tuesday is a week ahead of Thursday in the material, a catch-up can land a dancer on a different lesson. Keep parallel groups in step, or accept that a catch-up is "the same level" rather than "the same lesson".

Steps#

  1. Create the first course: Courses → New course, Style Salsa, Level Beginners 2, Tuesday 20:15, De Loods Room 1, teacher Ilse, 12 of each role, €120, ten weeks. Publish it.
  2. Create the second the same way: Level Beginners 2, Thursday 20:15, Zaal Noord Room 1, teacher Samir. Studio Voorbeeld keeps this one smaller: 6 of each role. Publish it.
  3. Give them names dancers can tell apart if you like, for example "Salsa · Beginners 2 (Tue)". It's optional: the course cards already show the day and the building.
  4. On both courses, leave Missed weeks here can be caught up elsewhere, and this group takes catch-ups on (the default).
  5. Turn catch-ups on for the school: Catch-ups → Let dancers catch up a missed week. The defaults (same level, same style, 14 days either side, 2 per block) suit parallel groups. See G05 for the choices.

The course editor's checks may warn that another Salsa course runs the same evening ("dancers may only manage one"). With parallel groups on different evenings you won't see that. If you do, the two courses clash for a dancer who wants both.

What dancers see#

Noor dances Beginners 2 on Tuesdays. On the course page Noor chooses Can't come on next Tuesday's week, then Release it. That week now offers Catch up, and the list includes Thursday's Beginners 2. Noor books it at no cost.

Check it worked#

  • As a dancer with a seat in one group, report a future week, then choose Catch up. The other group's dates within the window are listed.
  • On Thursday's lesson roster, the extra dancer shows as Catch-up.

Changing your mind#

  • One group teaches its own material (a choreography block, say): turn its catch-up switch off. It then neither gives nor takes catch-ups.
  • The Thursday group is full: by default catch-ups can go past a class's cap. To limit that, set Limit how far over the cap under Catch-ups. Studio Voorbeeld allows 1 extra per role.

If it doesn't work#

  • The other group isn't offered. Check that both have the same style and Level, that catch-ups are on for the school and for both courses, that the date is within the window, and that the dancer isn't already booked at that time. See No catch-up choices appear.
